impossible to safely roll a wagon through the cracked lunar landscape in the Upper Midwest. Our most famous badlands are preserved in national parks in the Dakotas – and off limits to canine hikers.

To give your dog a chance to explore these unique lands of sculpted rock,

head south from the Dakotas to the lesser-known badlands of the Nebraska

panhandle. Here in the Gala National Grasslands you will find dog-friendly

Toadstool Geologic Park where the relentless tag-team of water and wind have

carved fanciful rock formations into the stark hills.

The “toadstools” form when underlying soft clay stone erodes faster than the

hard sandstone that caps it. You can hike with your dog on a marked, mile-long

interpretive loop that leads you on an educational adventure through these

badlands. Your dog is welcome on the hard rock trail but you can also explore off

the path for close-up looks in the gullies at fossil bone fragments that lace the

rocks and 30-million year-old footprints preserved in the stone.

There are some rocks to be scaled along the route but this ramble under

banded cliffs of clay and ash is suitable for any level of canine hiker. There is only

sporadic shade and seasonal streams in this ancient riverbed so bring plenty of

water for your dog, especially in the summer months. Take a break at the end of

the hike in the small fenced yard of the reproduced sod house beside the parking

lot.

For extended canine hikes, Toadstool Park connects to the world-renowned

Hudson-Meng Bison Boneyard via a three-mile trail. This archeological site seeks to

unravel the mystery of how over 600 bison died nearly 10,000 years ago in an area

about the size of a football stadium. Human predation is the leading suspect.

Toadstool Geologic Park is located 19 miles NW of Crawford, Nebraska on US

Forest Route 904 off State highway 2/71. The trail begins at the back of the six-

unit campground.

The Law of Attraction and Quantum Physics https://gamsfarm.xyz/the-law-of-attraction-and-quantum-physics/ https://gamsfarm.xyz/the-law-of-attraction-and-quantum-physics/#respond Fri, 28 Jul 2023 10:31:53 +0000 https://gamsfarm.xyz/index.php/2023/07/28/the-law-of-attraction-and-quantum-physics/

“If thoughts can do that to water, imagine what our thoughts can do to us.” – from the movie, What the Bleep Do We Know!?

The Law of Attraction teaches that we attract into our lives whatever we focus on. Quantum Physics teaches that nothing is fixed, that there are no limitations, that everything is vibrating Energy. By understanding that everything is Energy in a state of potential and by applying the Law of Attraction to bring into our lives what we focus on, it is never necessary to feel stuck with an undesirable life.

We are Creators of the Universe. The classical physics of Newton takes a material perspective in which the Universe is composed of discrete building blocks, solid and unchangeable. Quantum physics takes a spiritual perspective in which there are no separate parts, in which everything is fluid and always changing.

The physical world is a sea of Energy constantly flashing into and out of existence. It is through our thoughts that we transform this ever-changing Energy into observable reality. Therefore, we can create our reality with our thoughts. With quantum physics, science is leaving behind the notion that human beings are powerless victims and moving toward an understanding that we are fully empowered creators of our lives and of our world.

With Newton, we were insignificant cogs in the Universal Machinery. With quantum physics, we are Creators of the Universe.

Everything is Energy. Einstein’s 1905 formula E = mc2 explains the relationship between Energy and matter, i.e., that Energy and matter are interchangeable – that, in reality, everything is Energy – dancing, fluid, ever-changing Energy.

This Energy is influenced by our thoughts. It is shapeable, formable, and moldable. As Creators, we shape, form and mold the Energy of the Universe through our thoughts. We transform the Energy of our thoughts into the Energy of our reality.

The Physics of Possibility. The popular movie, What the Bleep Do We Know!?, clarifies that quantum physics is the physics of possibility. We have been conditioned to believe that the external world is more real than the internal world. Quantum physics says just the opposite. It says that what’s happening on the inside determines what’s happening on the outside. It says that our world is shaped by our thoughts.

Since nothing is fixed and everything is in a state of potential, everything is possible. As we understand that everything is possible, and as we focus our thoughts on what we want to attract, we can literally call into existence whatever we desire.

My ten-year old neighbor loves the expression – “It could happen!” He probably doesn’t know much about the physics of possibility, but he practices it with his great attitude. He reminds me to entertain possibility. He reminds me that nothing is impossible.

Dreams into Reality. The Universe exists as infinite potential in infinite abundance. As we focus our thoughts, we have the power to bring our desires into existence, our dreams into reality. As we focus our thoughts, we have the power to be and do and have whatever we desire.

Teaching High School Mathematics in the 21st Century https://gamsfarm.xyz/teaching-high-school-mathematics-in-the-21st-century/ https://gamsfarm.xyz/teaching-high-school-mathematics-in-the-21st-century/#respond Fri, 28 Jul 2023 10:18:15 +0000 https://gamsfarm.xyz/index.php/2023/07/28/teaching-high-school-mathematics-in-the-21st-century/ The latter years of the 20th century saw the development, in many countries, of universal secondary education. This meant that all students, irrespective of their ability or interest in Mathematics were obliged to continue learning in Mathematics to the end of their high school education.

In the past, students graduating into high school Mathematics classrooms were, for the most part, “Maths-Logical” thinkers. This meant that the “Chalk and talk” and multiple practice exercises approach to pedagogue worked for those students. But, with all students attending high school, their learning styles did not work with this traditional pedagogue. This meant that teaching pedagogues in Mathematics had to change. In addition, there was a need for massive syllabus changes to bring syllabuses in line with modern developments in Mathematics, particularly with the advent of computer technology. To further complicate the issue, if a teacher used a variety of pedagogue, the teacher needed to use an assessment process that reflects that pedagogue.

This meant that my teaching pedagogue had to expand to cater for all my students as well as the requirements of the modern syllabuses in Mathematics.

Below is how I tried to make Mathematics more appealing to my students at the beginning of the 21st century. There are fourteen strategies I used to help students want to be totally involved in the development of their Mathematics.

My student centered strategies were:

1. Mathematics had to be fun, relevant, and life related.

I used such strategies as a fun quiz, real-life questions, easy to difficult challenges, questions in unfamiliar contexts and speed quizzes to name just a few strategies.

2. I try to teach Mathematics the way I would have liked to have been taught, not as I was taught.

Remember how you were often bored in “Maths” classes and you could not see the relevance of Mathematics to your life. Don’t allow your students to feel that way.

3. I used a variety of teaching strategies to fit the topics I was teaching.

Don’t let Mathematics be just “chalk and talk” and practice of multiple exercises. Use technology, cooperative learning techniques, hands-on material, practical lessons, the quiz and any strategies that take into account the different learning styles of your students. Then assess each topic in a way that reflects your teaching approach.

4. I often used my students as assistant teachers.

I often used my more able students as mentors in their areas of expertise. I may need to give them some tutor training but I found that the other students react well to their help and progress faster. What is important about the mentor’s words is that it is in the language of the student. This enables the less able student to understand more quickly.

5. I set out to develop every skill I could in all my students, irrespective of their Mathematics talent.

The greater the range of skills I could teach my students, the greater was their chance of success in the long term. These skills might include estimation, planning, how to check effectively as well as how best to set out the solution to a problem.

6. I worked hard to help students develop their own understanding of Mathematics, not to just adopt my understanding.

In other words, I introduced the ideal of ‘Constructivism’ into my teaching.

My teacher centered strategies were:

7. I taught Mathematics through Stealth.

The quiz is an example of a way to create learning by stealth. It seems to be more like fun than learning Mathematics for many students.

8. Teaching Mathematics should be challenging, exciting and fun to you, the teacher. It was to me.

I looked for real life examples to use in my teaching and assessment. I included short problem solving/critical thinking exercises in every lesson. These do not need to be difficult every time. For difficult examples, I would give the students clues slowly.

9. I would experiment with new teaching approaches, and then evaluate their success, review the approach, plan a new version and try again.

I introduce new teaching strategies into my program and perfected them with a review process. These different strategies catered for the students’ different learning styles. As well, they added new and interesting teaching challenges for me, as the teacher.

10. Working with lower and middle school classes allowed me the flexibility to experiment with new teaching approaches and assessment that I could use.

This is because the results of assessment in these years are used to rate students internally rather than externally. If a new type of assessment task didn’t work the first time, then I changed it and tried the assessment task again. The original task may well have produced a great learning experience instead of a valid assessment task for your students.

11. I shared my successes and disasters with your colleagues.

This process became an informal professional development for me and my colleagues. Sometimes a more experienced colleague would show me where I went wrong and how I might overcome the disaster in the future.

12. I would model aloud to my classes what I was actually thinking about a problem as I produced a solution to the problem on the whiteboard.

Sometimes I would follow through with an approach that I knew would fail. I didn’t call that a failure but a learning experience for my students. Being a “perfect” solver of problems often disheartens students who believe they can’t match what you do. More often, I included, in my modeling, any ideas that come into my mind that I rejected. I explained why I rejected those ideas. I would model as many different solutions or approaches as time permitted. If a student came up with a different but mathematically correct solution, I would have them convey it to the class.

13. I challenged myself to help students want to come to Mathematics lessons.

I tried to create a personal mindset that helps me develop lessons that I enjoy providing for my students. This meant that I would want to be there, too.

14. I incorporated the use of graphics calculators and computer software as often as possible.

Students, today, are computer users. They relate well to technology. The beauty of technology is that the teacher can demonstrate visually many examples of what is under discussion using computer software or the graphics calculator applications projected on a screen. Understanding comes more quickly than the pen on paper strategies of the past.

Erasmus Samuel Amukun: Uganda Sprinter and Geologist https://gamsfarm.xyz/erasmus-samuel-amukun-uganda-sprinter-and-geologist/ https://gamsfarm.xyz/erasmus-samuel-amukun-uganda-sprinter-and-geologist/#respond Fri, 28 Jul 2023 10:11:38 +0000 https://gamsfarm.xyz/index.php/2023/07/28/erasmus-samuel-amukun-uganda-sprinter-and-geologist/ Erasmus Samuel A.O. Amukun was born on November 27th 1940 in Ngora in Kumi in Eastern Uganda. He is best known for his exploits as a collegiate and international sprinter and as a professional geologist. He represented Uganda at the British Empire Commonwealth Games, at the Olympic Games, and at the East and Central African Games. Amukun is also credited for having beaten Kenyan sprint legend and future Commonwealth Games (1962, Perth) double-sprint gold-medallist Seraphino Antao in a race.

In 1958, at the Commonwealth Games in Cardiff in Wales (July 17-26, 1958), teenager Amukun did not advance beyond the fifth of twelve preliminary heats in the 100 yards sprint. In the heat 5 he finished in 9.9 seconds, in fourth place. But his team-mate Benjamin Kiyini Nduga, who had finished ahead of Antao, qualified for and moved on to the semi-finals in which he would be eliminated. In the 220 yards, Amukun was second in the eighth (22.14) of nine heats of the preliminary round. Later, in the fourth of six heats of the quarter-final round for which he had qualified, he was eliminated after finishing third in 22.1. But in the 4×100 yards, the Uganda relay team which Amukun was part of, finished sixth in the finals (42.1). Also on the Uganda relay team were Ben Nduga, Ignatius Okello, and S. Bwowe. They had moved on to the finals after finishing in third place (42,47) in the first round which was a semi-final.

Amukun, aged 19, was the captain of the Uganda team at the 1960 Olympics in Rome. In the young Uganda team, Amukun was the youngest, and 21 year-old Aggrey Awori was the oldest.

On August 31st 1960, Erasmus Amukun competed in the fourth of nine heats in the first round series of the 100m in which the fastest three in each heat would move on to the next round–the quarter-finals. He finished third in 10.80, qualifying for the next round. Notably, in this first round, fellow Ugandan 21 year-old Aggrey Awori (Awoori) who competed in the third heat was eliminated after finishing fifth (11.09). Kenyan Seraphino Antao (10.64) comfortably finished first in the first heat of this preliminary round and thus moved on to the quarter-finals.

In the quarter-finals held later in the day, Amukun was placed to run in the third of the four heats. He would finish fourth (10.75), and become eliminated since he was not among the top three finishers in the heat. But this would be the fastest he would ever officially run in the 100m. Antao finished third in the fourth heat (10.61) and moved on to the semi-finals. On September 1st Antao finished sixth (10.72) in the second of two semi-final heats, and become ineligible for the finals.

The 200m competition was started on September 2nd, and Amukun was placed in the fifth heat of the dozen heats of the first round in which the top two finishers of each heat would move on to the quarter-final round. Amukun finished second (21.38) and moved on to the quarter-finals. This would officially be his life-time best in the 200m. Meanwhile, Antao won in the eleventh heat (21.44), easily making it to the next round.

In the 200m quarter-finals held later that day, Amukun was placed in the first of four heats. He finished fourth (21.47) and was eliminated from advancing to the semi-finals since he was not among the top three finishers in the heat. Also coming in fourth, but in the second heat of the quarter finals was Seraphino Antao (21.43) who was also eliminated.

Uganda also competed in the 4x100m relay scheduled for September 7th 1960. There were four heats in the first round, and Uganda finished in fifth in 41.90, but had already been disqualified. In some of the other heats, Poland and France were also disqualified. The Uganda relay team had also included Aggrey Awori, Jean Baptiste Okello, and Gadi Ado.

In 1961 at the East and Central African Championships at the venue Nakuru in Kenya, Erasmus Amukun had won in the 440 yards in 48.0 seconds. Samuel Amukun was also part of the Uganda 4×100 yards relay team that won in 43.1 in Nakuru.

Near the end of 1961, Amukun successfully completed the 2-year Cambridge Advanced Secondary School Certificate, majoring in the sciences, at King’s College Budo (Buddo) near Kampala where he resided in Mutesa House.

Sam Amukun competed in the annual IC4A (or ICAAAA, (Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America) which is a men’s competition held at different colleges every year. Amukun was then an undergraduate student at Colgate University in Hamilton in New York. At the IC4A in Villanova in Pennsylvania in 1964 at the end of May, Amukun won in the 100 yards in 9.7. It was a photo-finish with Villanova University’s Earl Horner, and it was decided that Amukun with his chest forward on the tape had won (Green 1964: 5).

At the summer Olympics held in Tokyo in 1964, 23 year-old Amukun would represent Uganda in the 200m, and in the 4x100m relay. Placed in the second heat of eight heats of the preliminary rounds, Amukun finished fifth (21.55) on October 16th and was eliminated since he was not among the top four finishers in the heat. Kenyan Antao advanced to the quarter-final heats after finishing second in the third heat (21.52). Antao would, in the quarter-finals, later be eliminated.

On October 20th, the 4x100m Uganda relay team consisting of Awori, Amukun, James Odongo, and Amos Omolo finished sixth (41.4) in the third of the three first-round heats; so the team did not advance to the semi-finals.

Revenge was sweet at the annual IC4A championships held in 1965 in Brunswick, New Jersey at the end of May. Here Horner of Villanova who had lost to Amukun of Colgate in the 100m in 1964, won in both short sprints, with Amukun finishing third in the 100 yards sprint. But earlier in the same year, at the beginning of May, the Ugandan Olympian had triumphed in both short sprints at the track meet whereby the Raiders of Colgate were pitted against Syracuse University (Orange) at the Archbold Stadium in Syracuse. Also, in mid-April at the Cornel University vs. Colgate meet, Amukun the meet record-holder was beaten into second place in both short sprints by Cornel’s Charles Blaugrund (9.9 in the 100 yards) second effort in the 100-yd. dash was enough to beat Colgate’s Sam Amukun, the meet record holder a favorite in the event. Amukun had covered the distance in 9.6 seconds the week before. In the 220 yard sprint, again Blaugrund (22.5) was followed by the Ugandan at the finishing line.

Just before Amukun died in 1998, aged 57, he was the exploration manager for Northwest Explorations, in Canada. Amukum obtained the bachelor of science degree in chemistry at Colgate in 1966 while on track-and-field scholarship. He would acquire the master’s degree in geology at the University of Manitoba in 1969. The title of his master’s thesis is: “Petrography of the Gold-Bearing Vein Rocks from Bissett Area, Southeastern Manitoba.”

Amukun returned to Uganda to work at the Kilembe mine of Falconbridge but fled to Canada with his wife in 1972 given the insecurity and unease about the dictatorial military regime of Idi Amin.

After his death it was chronicled that after leaving Uganda, for 25 years, Amukun worked as a field geologist for the Ontario Geological Survey, Noranda and Urangesellschaft, and later started his consulting business. In 1996, he joined Northwest Explorations and became exploration manager for the company’s Guyanese projects. He was a member of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum, the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada, and the Geological Association of Canada.

Samuel Erasmus Amukun compiled and authored extensively and his books include: “Precambrian Geology, Little Marshall Lake Area” (1989), “Geology of the Klob Lake Area, District of Thunder Bay” (1984), “Geology of the Willet Lake Area, District of Thunder Bay” (1979), “Geology of the Tashota Area, District of Thunder Bay” (1977), “Geology of the Gledhill Lake Area, District of Thunder Bay” (1980), “Geology of the Conglomerate Lake Area, District of Thunder Bay” (1980), and “Willet Lake, Thunder Bay District” (1979).

Amukun had been married to Daphne for 29 years, and he was also survived by daughter Nasheba and sons Settu and Mwenu.

Wisdom of the Ancient Norse and Spiritual Quantum Physics https://gamsfarm.xyz/wisdom-of-the-ancient-norse-and-spiritual-quantum-physics/ https://gamsfarm.xyz/wisdom-of-the-ancient-norse-and-spiritual-quantum-physics/#respond Fri, 28 Jul 2023 10:06:33 +0000 https://gamsfarm.xyz/index.php/2023/07/28/wisdom-of-the-ancient-norse-and-spiritual-quantum-physics/ The World’s oldest traditions tell us that long ago all peoples inherited a body of sacred truths.

The Laws of Spiritual Quantum Physics tell us that everything that ever was, is or will be exists in the timeless, space-less Quantum Ocean, which in reality is the Mind of God.

This wisdom always existed and exists now. It only needs to be brought out of the Quantum Ocean, dusted off and presented in a language more befitting to the New Age of Aquarius.

The Age of Aquarius is a new energy presented to all mankind on the planet. It will be with us for 2000 years.

The wisdom of the Ancient Norse with its myths, rituals and esoteric philosophy is wine in old flasks,

You cannot put the new wine (energy) of the Age of Aquarius into these old Piscean (last 2000 years) flasks.

For modern day Northern Europeans seeking out the wisdom and knowledge of their Ancestral Soul we need new flasks. New understanding of the myths and rituals are needed. We need to do these ourselves.

It is time to penetrate to the core of inspired meaning, hidden in the Norse myths using modern day language and the Laws of Spiritual Quantum Physics.

To the Norse bards or skalds, the interplay between gods and giants represented the interaction of spirit (gods) and matter (giants) through mansion after mansion of planetary and solar spheres within All-Father Odin’s domain.

The modern science of Spiritual Quantum Physics has given us a wider view showing us that the All-Father Odin’s domain is just one small domain in the infinite domain known as the Quantum Ocean, Mind of God.

It is the well known Volsupa or Sibyls Prophecy that tells of the formation of worlds, of Odin’s search for wisdom in the spheres of matter (Quantum Ocean), and when the Gods withdrew and Earth was no more.

This is explained in the Laws of Spiritual Quantum Physics by the concept of ‘blinking in’ and ‘blinking out’ of everything that exists in the Quantum Ocean.

People ‘blink in and out’ (reincarnation), animals, plants, planets, suns, solar systems and according to the Ancient Aryan Brahmin philosophy, so will the whole Universe when God breathes in.

Everything exists and never dies and everything ‘blinks in and out’ according to its own time table.

When Odin hung on the windswept tree for nine nights, he paid the sacrificial price that allowed him to see the runes inside of the Quantum Ocean, where they always existed for eons, and bring them out.

We are building a new way for our Kindred to understand the wisdom of the Ancient Norse and the runes.

All is energy. We live, move and have our being within an infinite timeless, space less point called the Quantum Ocean, Mind of God.

It is our task, as kindred, to ‘think’ our way into the Quantum Ocean and bring out this Ancient Norse Wisdom and put it in new flasks.

Mathematics Concepts and Skills – Repetition in Math https://gamsfarm.xyz/mathematics-concepts-and-skills-repetition-in-math/ https://gamsfarm.xyz/mathematics-concepts-and-skills-repetition-in-math/#respond Fri, 28 Jul 2023 10:02:31 +0000 https://gamsfarm.xyz/index.php/2023/07/28/mathematics-concepts-and-skills-repetition-in-math/ Over the last couple of decades there has been a decreasing emphasis on the importance of repetition of mathematics concepts and skills in the learning of this subject. The emphasis has shifted more toward thinking skills and “working outside the square”, meaning being able to apply problem solving skills to real life situations. This has been accompanied by an increase in the amount of written material in secondary school math textbooks and a decrease in the amount of repetitive exercises where only the basic mathematical skill is practiced.

This is good in theory, but continually declining standards of mathematics in Australia and the US indicate that this approach to maths is not as good as it seems. The problem lies with its fundamental assumption that students already possess the basic skills needed for problem solving. In maths, it is not possible to “work outside the square” unless one is competent with all the skills contained within the square. For example, a student will not be able to solve a problem concerning the amount of wire needed to fence Farmer Brown’s paddock unless they can accurately calculate perimeter first.

Being able to complete repetitive textbook exercises does not guarantee success in application problems. What it does do is give students the tools they need to tackle problems beyond the textbook. Attempting to solve abstract problems without a solid skill base is like building a house on sand; it is a futile exercise.

This situation can be compared to physical training. One can understand the benefits of being able to build muscle through exercise, but unless you do this you will fail when it comes to the application task of weight lifting. Math works the same way. Repetition of basic skills builds the skill so that it becomes a reflex. When a skill is a reflex it can be applied to other situations. Possessing the skill does not guarantee success in the application, but it does allow for that success.

The role of repetition of basic skills in maths needs to be re-examined in the context of primary and lower secondary education. Without a firm foundation of numeracy skills to build on, students will continue to struggle with maths throughout their school careers.

In Microcosm Of Sand, Geologist-Writer Evokes The Entire Universe https://gamsfarm.xyz/in-microcosm-of-sand-geologist-writer-evokes-the-entire-universe/ https://gamsfarm.xyz/in-microcosm-of-sand-geologist-writer-evokes-the-entire-universe/#respond Fri, 28 Jul 2023 10:00:30 +0000 https://gamsfarm.xyz/index.php/2023/07/28/in-microcosm-of-sand-geologist-writer-evokes-the-entire-universe/ The word “sand,” much like the words “rock” and “dirt,” is a word one acquires very early in childhood. Sand, rock, and dirt are ubiquitous materials, the building blocks of our planet. We are confronted with them early in life and life requires of us that we know what they are.

Perhaps the most interesting of the three to the young is sand because it is both hard and yet it can flow like water, it is hard and soft, static yet mobile. Sand, the encyclopedias tell is a “naturally occurring granular material composed of finely divided rock and mineral particles.” Even those who have not studied sand know that it comes in a variety of colors and in startling degrees of granularity, ranging from the almost talcum powder fineness of the orange sand of the Sahara to the much more gritty varieties derived from crushed coral which are so prevalent on the world’s beaches.

And now at last there comes a book devoted exclusively to sand, an extraordinary and delightful exploration of this strange corner of the mineral world. It is Sand: The Never-Ending Story by the British geologist Michael Welland, a masterful evocation of a much neglected and yet remarkable and omnipresent basic substance of our world.

From individual grains observed in minute structural detail under the microscope to the vast desert dunes which form like ocean waves on stretches of the Sahara Desert that can be seen from space, from the bottom of the world’s oceans to the landscapes of our neighbor Mars, from billions of years in the past to a future that stretches to infinity — Sand: The Never-Ending Story is an astonishing narrative that encompasses the whole universe in which we live, because practically everywhere in that universe is this stuff, this sand, one of nature’s most humble and yet most powerful and most omnipresent materials.

While this is a book by a professional scientist with a Ph.D. from Cambridge, the story is told with a dramatic sense of language and narrative more reminiscent of fiction and film. Welland is a gifted writer. Sand examines the science of sand, including the physics of granular materials generally, and yet the focus is always on the human context of sand, sand as a material we use every day. That, in the end, is what gives sand meaning in our human world. Interwoven with tales of scientists, sculptors, navigators, the story of sand is at the same time a story of environmental building and a tale of environment collapse, an adventure that stretches back to the beginnings of our planet as a place of solid materials yet a tale that encompasses also the mundane realities of a child’s sandbox in today’s back yard. That is because sand is all around us. Sand is a component of almost everything — it has made possible our computers, buildings, and plate glass for windows, toothpaste, cosmetics, and paper, and it has played dramatic roles in human history, commerce, and imagination. It is a component of concrete, and it is an artifact of weathering. Given enough time, the Rocky Mountains will turn to sand; indeed, the Alleghenies already have. Welland shows us that we can find the world in a grain of sand.

Though he is certainly first and foremost a professional scientist, no one is more fun to listen to as a writer of narrative nonfiction than Michael Welland. He is a born raconteur who might easily have become a writer of pulp fiction (or the owner of a British pub!) had he not chosen the higher calling of studying rocks. His narrative flows with the ease and grace of the best creative nonfiction, adapting many of the techniques of telling stories more typically associated with novels.

His fellow scientists have recognized the power of this book. Sand: The Never-Ending Story won the prestigious John Burroughs Medal in 2010 for the finest book that year about natural history (an honor Welland shares with Rachel Carson, Joseph Wood Krutch, John McPhee, and other luminaries of natural history going back to 1926).

Michael Welland has written an extraordinary book, perhaps even a timeless book that non-scientists can enjoy as much as professional geologists. Welland, who spent many years practicing geology in the United States, now lives in London with his wife and family where he is managing director of Orogen, a geological consulting company he founded, and a Fellow of the Geological Society.

Sand: The Never-Ending Story, 360 pages, is available in hardcover and paperback from The University of California Press.

Music Review of Math and Physics Club’s Self-Titled Album https://gamsfarm.xyz/music-review-of-math-and-physics-clubs-self-titled-album/ https://gamsfarm.xyz/music-review-of-math-and-physics-clubs-self-titled-album/#respond Fri, 28 Jul 2023 09:58:28 +0000 https://gamsfarm.xyz/index.php/2023/07/28/music-review-of-math-and-physics-clubs-self-titled-album/ Math and Physics Club are an indie pop (Or Indie Rock) band based in Seattle, Washington. They are Charles Bert (Vocals/Rhythm Guitar), Kevin Emerson (Drums), Ethan Jones (Bass/Keyboards), James Werle (Lead Guitar), and Saundrah Humphrey (Violin). They were formed in 2004, and have released three EPs and one full length album through Santa Barbara-based Matinee Recordings. Their genre also includes twee, and according to PitchforkMedia, their music were described as “music to hold hands to.” Suitable for most lovey dovey couple!

Math and Physics Club is so fun to listen to. You could listen to the voice of Charles all day and enjoy the music at the same time. No complaints about his voice (and the rest of Math and Physics Club) and the simplicity of their music, and yet impressive songs and lyrics has left a vivid mark on my mind.

The album opens with “Darling, Please Come Home” which is such an infectious track that I think it’s one of the best tracks on the album. The guitar of this track keeps repeating in a tempo and pace that is so friendly to our ears and I can’t help it but mocking to play a guitar whenever I listen to this song. When Charles sings, “Darling won’t you please come home…” I knew they had me, they had me thinking about this song all the time. Amazing and lovely opener! I keep imagining myself saying, “Darling, won’t you please come home…”

“I Know What I Want” is perfect when you are proposing! The music playing of this song is just so soothing and take note of the lyrics of this song, “How did you know me so well? You smile but you won’t ever tell… It’s you… I know what I want..” You can hear Charles’ lovely voice which is a bonus to this song! He sings so effortlessly while the rest of Math and Physics Club join in with their guitar, bass, drums and even violin. It’s a short song but it definitely worth your time for listening to it.

Stop complaining about the dates that end up in rain and check out “April Showers”. Somehow, I can feel that Charles is singing about a date of his. Singing about how wonderful rain can be (you can replace “Rain” with “Shower” ) if you were with someone that you love. Charles goes, “There’s no place I’d rather be, than with you right next to me, huddled up under my umbrella, though the rain keeps falling down…” You can hear lots of guitar plucking in “April Showers” and it’s like Math and Physics Club are playing in a cave whenever I heard the guitar plucking sound/part. Ba, ba, ba, ba, ba… April Showers… Though I prefer October Showers, my birth month!

“Holidays and Saturdays” is a slow-paced song and it shows Math and Physic Club’s versatility. They’re already very good with mid and fast-tempo songs,”Holidays and Saturdays” is just another song to show that they can even perform slow-tempo song. Picnic in the park, croquet on the lawn, staying up and talking until dawn… These are the things that we do on weekends, aren’t we? A nice way to slow down the tempo of the album.

“La La La Lisa” brings the tempo back! It has a few starts and stops in between but nevertheless, it still makes a good song. I wonder who is Lisa (a girl he met/saw in a club?), Charles sings about her as if he’s so much in love with her, dying to hold her hands, dying to kiss her, dying to be with her. It goes, “I would have died for just one kiss, I had the chance just to hold hands…” It’s just so smart of Math and Physics Club to write such witty lyrics. When Charles sings, “La La La La La La…” There must have been many things going on between Lisa and him.

“Look At Us Now” starts off with acoustic guitar and violin. Lovely! Nice opening to get me wondering for more. “We were in love, but look at us now, ba ba ba ba ba…” It is as if they were so much in love, until now. “Look at us now…,” Charles added. Then there are guitar solo followed by violin solo, what a play in such a short song!

“You’ll Miss Me” is another slow tempo song on the album. It’s one of my favourite songs on the album. I just love the guitar, bass, piano, violin and even the vocals on this song. It found its way to my heart even at the first listen. Charles goes, “Never should have left this carry on for so long, but I dare say that you’ll miss me…” and then he goes again with, “La da da da da la da da….” I gotta say, it’s just so good! 😀 Each time after the chorus, the piano comes in exactly at the right time. Really impressive!

“Cold as Minnesota” has a very tasty and groovy bassline to it. The bassline itself is the best asset of this song. Accompanied by handclaps after the break, it’s one of the most dance-able songs on the album. This song is as if Charles were getting mad at someone, “Step outside in the cold, I don’t want you here tomorrow when I wake up”, but Math and Physics Club made it a groovy track that is so delicious to our ears. I can’t say no!

From the lyrics of “Such a Simple Plan”, it seems to be a sad song. But again, Math and Physics Club made it an enjoyable and dance-able track. Charles sings about a girl who’s having a failed relationship, “Summer turned into June, she spent morning night and noon in a tiny room, typing away to another sad romantic…” It ends with, “She cries and reads herself to sleep instead”. Such a simple plan but with a deep meaning!

Math and Physics Club ends with “Last Dance”, a poppy and cheerful song that you want to tap your feet and dance to. The two guitar-playing were well arranged and timed. One is the lead guitar, the other a rhythm guitar. “Why does it have to be sad? Now darling don’t be mad, let’s put the past behind, and hit the floor before the last dance… To make you fall for me” Next time when you’re having a party, please dance with your partnet and remember the lyrics from “Last Dance”. You’ll have the best last dance ever!

Rating: I can imagine myself singing a couple of songs take from the album. “Math and Physics Club” is really created for a couple. All their songs and lyrics are meant to be listened and enjoyed by couples and lovers! If you ever have a chance to sing to your loved ones in front of a big crowd, you’ll know which album to look for! Simple but heart-melting, I can’t help it but give it 7.8 out of 10.

Stand-Out Tracks (My Picks): Darling, Please Come Home, I Know What I Want, You’ll Miss Me, Last Dance and Cold as Minnesota.

Renaissance Science – The Electromagnetics of Universal Love https://gamsfarm.xyz/renaissance-science-the-electromagnetics-of-universal-love/ https://gamsfarm.xyz/renaissance-science-the-electromagnetics-of-universal-love/#respond Fri, 28 Jul 2023 09:56:28 +0000 https://gamsfarm.xyz/index.php/2023/07/28/renaissance-science-the-electromagnetics-of-universal-love/ The Molecule of Emotion was discovered in 1972 by the scientist Dr Candace Pert. It was found to be the same molecule that existed in a primitive creature millions of years ago. The evolutionary difference between the primitive life form molecule and the human molecule was that the human one vibrates much faster. It can be considered that this evolutionary speeding up process might be caused by the fractal expansion of the universe. This proposition can be accommodated within the lost Classical Greek Music of the Spheres life science. The Harvard/NASA Astrophysics High Energy Division Library recently published papers arguing the the Classical Greek world view was based upon fractal logic.

The major difficulties in carrying out research into fractal life-science is firstly, that it has been declared heresy and secondly, it challenges the physics law governing Western scientific culture. That physics energy law demands the destruction of all life in the universe when the universe’s heat radiates off into cold space. While fractal logic is scientifically accepted as extending to infinity, life sciences within Western Universities can only be about species evolving to toward this postulated heat death extinction. The pagan basis of science once argued that infinite geometrical logic linked the evolutionary process to the functioning of an infinite universe and once again religious dogmatic science is on the defensive.

The Jesuit priest Tieldardt de Chardin absolutely refuted the omni power of the physics law of total extinction now governing Western technology. Both he and his colleague Maria Montessori, who is listed in TIME Magazine’s Century of Science as the greatest scientist of 1907, wanted to balance Einstein’s 1905 law of destruction E=Mc2, with a forbidden fractal logic law from ancient Greece. De Chardin’s work was denied publication during his lifetime by the Roman Holy Office and the law basic of the destructive ethos went on to be referred to by Einstein as the premier law of all science.

Montessori was working with Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Edison on ideas about how electromagnetic forces might be influencing young schoolchildren in order to develop creative abilities distinct from parental or dogmatic church imput. De Chardin and Montessori’s electromagnetic Golden Gates to the future could not open for any chosen race or privileged few, but only for all people at the same time. The Science Art Research Centre in Australia wanted to locate a pragmatic electromagnetic example of this humanistic fractal logic functioning in nature.

The scientist, Matti Pitkanen, extended de Chardin’s ideas about the lost Greek science of universal love. Every 11 years the sun sends balls of lethal electromagnetic radiation toward the earth which are caught be the earth’s electromagnetic hands and flung off into outer space. Pitkanen pointed out that the process fulfilled the criteria for it to be considered as an act of consciousness, in which electromagnetic forces act for the health of all life on earth at the same time.

During the 20th Century the Science-Art Research Centre of Australia discovered new physics laws governing optimum biological growth and and development through space-time. Both the Centre’s mathematician and director were awarded Gold Medal Laureates in 2009 by the Telesio-Galilei Academy of Science in London. Professor Simon Shnoll, the Head of Biological Research at Moscow University, also received such an award following his impassioned lecture about the burning alive in Rome of the scientist Giordano Bruno for teaching about the Greek science of universal love at Oxford University.

While the wrath of the Inquisition may have lost potency, reasoning about life and death issues for humanity can still suffer influential constraint because of existing religious dogmatic persuasions. In honour of those great scientists of the Church who suffered so badly because of its hierarchical disposition, challenges to fixed scientific doctrine concerning spiritual or holographic science debate should no longer warrant condemnation as heresy. Cicero, the Roman Historian, recorded that the teachers of the Greek Atomistic science of universal love were called saviours. Perhaps, Thomas Jefferson’s published conviction that Jesus Christ was the greatest of those scientists who had inherited the ‘Saviour’ title, might provide some sort of modernistic healing salve for the Church during future technological debate.

Mathematics and Physics Think Tanks – What is the Best Size of the Group? https://gamsfarm.xyz/mathematics-and-physics-think-tanks-what-is-the-best-size-of-the-group/ https://gamsfarm.xyz/mathematics-and-physics-think-tanks-what-is-the-best-size-of-the-group/#respond Fri, 28 Jul 2023 09:54:27 +0000 https://gamsfarm.xyz/index.php/2023/07/28/mathematics-and-physics-think-tanks-what-is-the-best-size-of-the-group/ Did you know a good many of the most influential think tanks in the world are all about the mathematical analytics involved in problem-solving? Indeed these think tanks use mathematical equations to figure out the most appropriate solution to the major economic, military, energy, and infrastructure challenges that face mankind. Why is this you ask? Well, it has a lot to do with coming to a conclusion without making a mistake, and stacking the deck in your favor based on probability of a positive outcome.

Of course, to do this, first you need to know which mathematical equations to use. But that requires an entirely different type of think tank. It requires a think tank that is all about the math, and not about the given problems. In other words you have to develop the proper math first, before you can solve anything. Therefore, if a group of individuals are trying to come up with the best solution they would first refer to the mathematics arm of the group to give them the proper analytical basis.

Now then, helping one determine what the size of a physics or mathematics think group should actually be is not so easy? Well it turns out that we need to refer back to the group iteself, and calculate what the best size group might be for that area of science. It turns out there is a mathematical equation which determines the best size for a mathematical mastermind group. Isn’t that interesting? And believe it or not, statistically it has been proven that the size of these groups matters more than you might ever believe.

In fact, there was an interesting article published recently in Physics World, written by the News Editor Michael Banks which was titled; “Why 13 and 25 are Magic Numbers for Physicists” and posted online on June 9, 2011. The article explained that there is actually a mathematical basis for the efficiency of success in experimental physics groups and mathematical think tanks. You see if the group is too small, there tends not to be the big breakthroughs, but if it is too large the personalities, egos, and debates take up too much time and less will get done, sometimes nothing gets done. The article states;

“Two physicists have, for the first time, quantified how the increasing size of research groups in physics affects the quality of the work it can produce. They conclude that the best group size for experimental physicists is around 25 researchers, while in theoretical physics the number is 13. Adding more researchers to the group over these sizes does not result in an increase in research quality.”

The other day, I was speaking to a College Professor working on a research paper that could revolutionize human mathematics, and introduce some rather intriguing geometrical shapes as the basis for calculating quantum computing problems, and also solving mathematical proofs that have been deemed nearly impossible to prove so far. Indeed, perhaps even come up with endless new proofs and launch a whole new branch of mathematics. In discussing this completely intriguing concept with him, we determined we needed a special think tank to do it.

In this case study it makes sense to find a 13 of the top analytical mathematics scientists if indeed we expect the project to be viable, and come up with adequate solutions. In any case, I hope you will please consider the importance of mathematics in the proper running of our civilization. Think on it.

Developing Wellsite Geology Software https://gamsfarm.xyz/developing-wellsite-geology-software/ https://gamsfarm.xyz/developing-wellsite-geology-software/#respond Fri, 28 Jul 2023 09:52:10 +0000 https://gamsfarm.xyz/index.php/2023/07/28/developing-wellsite-geology-software/ Over the years I have been able to work on many different software projects. Some of these were stand-alone applications, others were client server applications that made good use of the local networks. A lot of Web development and working with Web technologies also played a part. All of these projects were challenging but not nearly as complex as the software industry with its myriad languages, technologies – its crazy jargon and seemingly endless acronyms. That was until now.

You see, now I have been immersed into the giant world of the oil and gas industry. They have their own languages and enough acronyms to make even a hardened software guy shudder. When you come across terms like datum, TVD (True Vertical Depth), mudlogging, RT (Rotary Table Elevation), MSL (Mean Sea Level), MDRT (Measured Depth from the Rotary Table), KB (Kelly Bushing), AHD (Australian Height Datum), plus many, many more – you have to stop and scratch your head.

Although being a specialist within the software industry with many years of experience and qualifications, it is much easier dealing with database tables with fields like FirstName, LastName, StreetAddress and Phone than it is with fields like Calcimetry_mg, AGSO_Id, iC4, LagDepthMD and Dolomite. If you are a geologist or work in the oil and gas industry then these terms may already be familiar to you. However, most people are absolutely flabbergasted when confronted by such terms. I know that I am.

When doing database mappings from one format into another, it is much simpler to look at FirstName and LastName fields in the source database and then see that they have to be concatenated in order to fit the single CustomerName field belonging to the destination database. This is not so easy when you don’t understand the geological meanings of terms and what they signify.

To some extent, you can still apply knowledge that you have from the software industry that does not have an immediate impact from any outside source. So, for example, you know how to setup Apache config files or modify IIS to configure the geology website and this requires no knowledge of wellsite geology terminology whatsoever. The knowledge of how to create a class and reference it does not change. There are many other aspects where your software, database and system skills are not impeded by the complexity of the field that you are working in.

All said and done, I am finding my introduction to the oil and gas industry not without incident and its fair share of activity. There is nothing sleepy about this industry as it seems to be a 24/7 worldwide operation and they don’t stop for weekends.

Numerology, Quantum Physics and Pythagoras https://gamsfarm.xyz/numerology-quantum-physics-and-pythagoras/ https://gamsfarm.xyz/numerology-quantum-physics-and-pythagoras/#respond Fri, 28 Jul 2023 09:50:24 +0000 https://gamsfarm.xyz/index.php/2023/07/28/numerology-quantum-physics-and-pythagoras/ Pythagoras was a great teacher, philosopher and mathematician in Ancient Greece. Thousands of years ago he said, “God Geometrizes.” He also said, “Numbers are alive and are the creation tools of the Universe.” In addition, he gave the world the great mathematical secret called “The Pythagorean Theorem.”

Over 40 yeas ago, when I was first introduces to the writings and teachings of Pythagoras, there was in immediate rapport. I began my forty year study of numerology. Even though I did not understand what he meant when he said, “Numbers are alive.” I believed it.

For too many years, myself and millions of others have been kept in the darkness of the dogmatic teachings of the Age of Pisces. We were kept from thinking “out of the box. We were taught that only humans, animals and plants were alive. And that only we could possess a wisdom, a force or power of any kind.

How could such an inanimate object, like numbers, possess an intelligence? How could they possess the ability to create? How could they be more than a chalk mark on a black board or a pencil mark on a pad of paper? We they are! They are, in fact, Divine Powers and we can use them to recreate our own lives.

The Age of Aquarius, with it’s new paradigm of the Laws of Quantum Physics, has blown not only the lid, but also the sides off of the “Piscean Box.” These laws tell us that all is energy. And that everything is alive with “Quanta,” life force, that thoughts, as well as numbers are things.

Everything, Universes, Galaxies, Planets, Suns, people, thoughts, emotions, and numbers all exist in an infinite ocean of thinking, intelligent energy. It is called the Quantum Ocean, which in reality is the Mind of God. We are all live move and have our being within the Mind of God. Since we are energy, the Universe is energy. Planets, other people, dogs, cats, NUMBERS all are energy. We and all energies affect each other.

The Great Cosmic Law of Three and the Laws of Resonant Frequencies tell us that whenever one energy field (us) comes into contact with another energy field (person, place or thing) a relationship is born. The relationship of the two different energies creates a third energy. This third energy is affects the relationship in many subtle and not so subtle ways. When you were born, there was a particular numerological energy present in the world around you.

By taking your first breath, you tuned your finer energy structure with the prevailing energy structure of the day. You tuned into the power of the number. In Numerology, this is referred to as your “Destiny Number” and you cannot change it because it was the prevailing energy of the day you were born. This energy is inside of you and is a permanent part of the signal you transmit to the world around you.

The signal we project outward, attracts our life in the form of persons, places and events. Therefore, it is important that you know the attracting power of your “Destiny Number.” There are only nine living number powers. Every two digit number can be reduced to one of the base nine numbers. All is energy! You are energy! Numbers are energy! When two energy systems come together a third energy is formed, that being the relationship which will greatly affect your life.

The name you were given can be reduced with Pythagoras’s numerological system to a series of numbers. These numbers create relationships with you and attract people, places and events into your life. If you don’t particularly like the way your life is going, not enough money, health, love, or creativity, then simply change the letters of your name and add or subtract letters, until they add up to the numbers of the numerological energies you wish to have in your life.

You can change your present reality into a more healthy, happy an loving reality by changing your name. Remember Numerology shows us how and that all is energy. Become a different energy being.

Renaissance Science and the Overpopulation Problem https://gamsfarm.xyz/renaissance-science-and-the-overpopulation-problem/ https://gamsfarm.xyz/renaissance-science-and-the-overpopulation-problem/#respond Fri, 28 Jul 2023 09:48:24 +0000 https://gamsfarm.xyz/index.php/2023/07/28/renaissance-science-and-the-overpopulation-problem/ The 5th Century BCE philosopher, Anaxagoras, was a central figure in the development of the Classical Greek Era’s life science. The Harvard/NASA High Energy Astrophysics Division Library has published papers arguing that this life science was based upon fractal geometrical logic. During the 5th Century St Augustine classified such pagan life science mathematics as being the work of the devil. This effectively denied its re-emergence until the present time when the fractal life energy theories of the engineer Buckminster Fuller, derived from Plato’s banished mathematical research, were observed functioning within the DNA. Fuller’s work became basic to a new medical life science institute established by the three 1996 Nobel Laureates in Chemistry. Fuller’s world view completely challenged the fixed world view’s understanding of universal energy.

Plato had written that engineers who did not understand about his spiritual engineering principles were like warlike barbarians who were not fit to be called philosophers. As ethical mathematics has been divorced from life science physics for almost sixteen hundred years it is necessary to explain that for centuries, well meaning aesthetical considerations were no real substitute for the lost Greek ethical physics principles. This statement demands authoritative reference, as it is rather offensive to demean honest attempts by scientists who strove to act or think ethically.

In 1990, Edward Husserl’s publication on pure logic listed the mathematician, Bernard Bolzano, as one of the world’s greatest logicians. German scientists recently rediscovered Bolzano’s Theory of science, which had been constructed by correcting the Aesthetics theories of Emmanuel Kant. Through computer extrapolation they discovered that Bolzano had based his correction upon fractal logic. In 1991 the Cambridge University Press published the German scientist J Alberto Coffa’s reaction to Bolzano’s correction of Kant’s work. In the book entitled The Semantic Tradition from Kant to Carnap. To the Vienna Station, edited by Linda Wessels is the following paragraph “Kant had not even seen these problems; Bolzano solved them. And his solutions were made possible by, and were the source of, a new approach to the content and character of a priori knowledge.” Therefore, it can be reasonably argued that Plato’s ethical spiritual engineering principles should not have been banished from science in the first place.

Our present scientific world view is barbaric because it is incorrectly governed by an energy law that prohibits the existence of any life science being linked to the functioning of universal ethics based upon fractal logic. We can now compare the old engineering logic regarding solutions to, say, the problem of overpopulation, to the new fractal logic life science. Thomas Malthus’ famous Population essay was based upon the religious teachings of St Thomas Aquinas, the thrust of which became synonymous with the entropic second law of thermodynamics, now governing all of science.

Charles Darwin cited Mathus’s Population paper as the basis for his life science theory of evolution. A commonly accepted entropic solution to the problem of overpopulation is that nature will find a way to cull the population. On the other hand fractal logic is now presenting various reality models that allude to new technologies providing more ethical considerations.

Animal and vegetable fatty acids combined with minerals in prehistoric clays to form liquid crystal optical mineral soaps. When subjected to cosmic radiation crystalline structures evolved, defying the logic of present day entropic life science. For example, jasper crystal growth produces Mumford fractals. Mainstream science accepts that a property of fractal logic is that it extends to infinity. Plato’s spiritual or holographic optical engineering principles appear to have been instigated by nature for some completely unknown future purpose. Human Swarm Technology alludes to various possibilities beyond the ability of modern science to even begin to comprehend, echoing Emmanuel Kant’s inability to conceive of the problems that Bolzano solved.

Population may soon inherit ethical technologies anticipated by nature to allow population to disperse into aspects of holographic reality that holds infinite human survival potential.

Finding a Mall Parking Spot Using Mathematics – Part II https://gamsfarm.xyz/finding-a-mall-parking-spot-using-mathematics-part-ii/ https://gamsfarm.xyz/finding-a-mall-parking-spot-using-mathematics-part-ii/#respond Fri, 28 Jul 2023 09:45:54 +0000 https://gamsfarm.xyz/index.php/2023/07/28/finding-a-mall-parking-spot-using-mathematics-part-ii/ If you read the previous article on this topic, then I imagine you were quite piqued by the nature of its contents. How we use mathematics to find a mall parking spot is not a typical thing you would hear people discussing at their Christmas parties. Yet I think anyone with a modicum of human interest would find this a most curious topic of conversation. The reaction I usually get is one of “Wow. How do you do that?”, or “You can really use mathematics to find a parking spot?”

As I mentioned in the first article, I was never content to get my degrees in mathematics and then not do anything with them other than to leverage job opportunities. I wanted to know that this newly found power that I studied feverishly to obtain could actually inure to my personal benefit: that I would be able to be an effective problem solver, and not just for those highly technical problems but also for more mundane ones such as the case at hand. Consequently, I am constantly probing, thinking, and searching for ways of solving everyday problems, or using mathematics to help optimize or streamline an otherwise mundane task. This is exactly how I stumbled upon the solution to the Mall Parking Spot Problem.

Essentially the solution to this question arises from two complementary mathematical disciplines: Probability and Statistics. Generally, one refers to these branches of mathematics as complementary because they are closely related and one needs to study and understand probability theory before one can endeavor to tackle statistical theory. These two disciplines aid in the solution to this problem.

Now I am going to give you the method (with some reasoning–fear not, as I will not go into laborious mathematical theory) on how to go about finding a parking spot. Try this out and I am sure you will be amazed (Just remember to drop me a line about how cool this is). Okay, to the method. Understand that we are talking about finding a spot during peak hours when parking is hard to come by–obviously there would be no need for a method under different circumstances. This is especially true during the Christmas season (which actually is the time of the writing of this article–how apropos).

Ready to try this? Let’s go. Next time you go to the mall, pick an area to wait that permits you to see a total of at least twenty cars in front of you on either side. The reason for the number twenty will be explained later. Now take three hours (180 minutes) and divide it by the number of cars, which in this example is 180/20 or 9 minutes. Take a look at the clock and observe the time. Within a nine minute interval from the time you look at the clock–often quite sooner–one of those twenty or so spots will open up. Mathematics pretty much guarantees this. Whenever I test this out and especially when I demonstrate this to someone, I am always amused at the success of the method. While others are feverishly circling the lot, you sit there patiently watching. You pick your territory and just wait, knowing that within a few minutes the prize is won. How smug!

So what guarantees that you will get one of those spots in the allotted time. Here is where we start to use a little statistical theory. There is a well-known theory in Statistics called the Central Limit Theory. What this theory essentially says is that in the long run, many things in life can be predicted by a normal curve. This, you might remember, is the bell-shaped curve, with the two tails extending out in either direction. This is the most famous statistical curve. For those of you who are wondering, a statistical curve is a chart off of which we can read information. Such a chart allows us to make educated guesses or predictions about populations, in this case the population of parked cars at the local mall.

Charts like normal curve tell us where we stand in height, let us say, with respect to the rest of the country. If we are in the 90th percentile in regard to height, then we know that we are taller than 90% of the population. The Central Limit Theorem tells us that eventually all heights, all weights, all intelligence quotients of a population eventually smooth out to follow a normal curve pattern. Now what does “eventually” mean. This means that we need a certain size population of things for this theorem to be applicable. The number that works very well is twenty-five, but for our case at hand, twenty will generally be sufficient. If you can get twenty-five cars or more in front of you, the better the method works.

Once we have made some basic assumptions about the parked cars, statistics can be applied and we can start to make predictions about when parking spots might become available. We cannot predict which one of the twenty cars will leave first but we can predict that one of them will leave within a certain time period. This process is similar to the one used by a life insurance company when it is able to predict how many people of a certain age will die in the following year, but not which ones will die. To make such predictions, the company relies on so-called mortality tables, and these are based on probability and statistical theory. In our particular problem, we assume that within three hours all twenty of the cars will have turned over and be replaced by another twenty cars. To arrive at this conclusion, we have used some basic assumptions about two parameters of the Normal Distribution, the mean and standard deviation. For the purposes of this article I will not go into the details regarding these parameters; the main goal is to show that this method will work very nicely and can be tested next time out.

To sum up, pick your spot in front of at least twenty cars. Divide 180 minutes by the number of cars–in this case 20–to get 9 minutes (Note: for twenty-five cars, the time interval will be 7.2 minutes or 7 minutes and 12 seconds, if you really want to get precise). Once you have established your time interval, you can check your watch and be sure that a spot will become available in at most 9 minutes, or whatever interval you calculated depending on the number of cars you are working with; and that because of the nature of the Normal curve, a spot will often become available sooner than the maximum allotted time. Try this out and you will be amazed. At the very least you will score points with friends and family for your intuitive nature.

The Genesis Flood and Geology https://gamsfarm.xyz/the-genesis-flood-and-geology/ https://gamsfarm.xyz/the-genesis-flood-and-geology/#respond Fri, 28 Jul 2023 09:41:13 +0000 https://gamsfarm.xyz/index.php/2023/07/28/the-genesis-flood-and-geology/ About the Earth

If you drew a straight line from the surface of the earth to its center, that line would be a little over 3,950 miles long. The crust of the earth is from the surface to 20 to 25 miles down. Immediately below the crust is what is called the mantle. The mantle is l,800 miles thick. It is then a little over 2,100 miles from the bottom of the mantel to the centermost point in the earth. That part of the earth is known as the core. Neither scientists nor any other men know anything for certain about the mantel and the core. There are many ideas and theories, but nothing has been learned by direct study, which is the only legitimate way that science can know, or honestly claim to know, anything for sure. Seismographs and other velocity-measuring equipment have given the basis for inferring certain things, which may or may not be correct; but nothing is known.

The Mantel and the Core of the Earth

The oldest accepted idea is that the core is an inferno of melted iron and nickel. A small bit more is known about the mantel, though not much. From what is known, the mantel is thought to be very dense, comprised primarily of silicates, rich in metals, and very vaguely described. Some earthquakes originate in the mantel. The magnetic field of the earth, it is believed, is caused by some unknown phenomena in the core. The deeper you go in the interior of the earth, the denser the material gets and the higher the temperatures rise, some think to as high as 2500 degrees Centigrade, squared!

Why are True North and Magnetic North Different?

There are Bible believing scientists who think that the mantel slipped on the core during the Genesis Flood. Definitive statements are impossible, however, due to the uncertain nature of information and understanding of the mantel.

The Earth’s Crust

Virtually all of the geological activity and changes that we can observe, and that have taken place in the history of the earth, have occurred in the crust.

Geological Evidences of the Great Flood

It would be quite impossible and impractical for us to attempt a thorough, much less exhaustive, examination of the geological evidences of great changes and then relate them to the Flood. No such thing is necessary, however, to make the points we want to make. Nothing in geology contradicts the Biblical account. And then, nothing but the Genesis Flood can really sensibly account for these phenomena. As you think about these things, there is a very significant and singular point to keep in sight. If one single example clearly denies the claims of uniformitarian evolution and historic geological time, then the whole theory is based upon a faulty premise.

World Class Testimony to the Great Flood

One of the clearest evidences of the Genesis Flood happening in just the way and the short period of time that the Bible says, is the enormous vertical build up of stratified layers in the Grand Canyon. In the Grand Canyon we have very high embankments comprised of one sedimentary layer on top of another. All of these are comprised of more or less of different types of soils and rocks.

The Preposterousness of Uniformitarian Fantasy

The uniformitarian evolutionary explanation, greatly simplified, is that these were done gradually over untold millions of years as the region, being a geosyncline plane, sank beneath the sea and received a strata layer, only to be heaved up by some force. It would then sink again in another few millions of years. Another evolutionary theory is or that these strata continued to pile up in place over a geological time period, only to be exposed by the gradual cutting down of a uniform river over millions of years. There are some other similar ideas too, but you get the picture.

The Atheistic Religious Bias of Evolutionists

These arbitrary and dishonest theories can only be believed by religious atheists who are so desperate to deny the Bible that they will grasp at any alternative. If one removed the religious zeal of these Biblical antagonists, no sensible scientist would ever believe for a moment such illogical and disreputable gobbledygook.

The Obviousness of the Biblical Record

The only sensible answer is the Great Flood. From the science of hydro-selectivity we know that when a current moves into a land mass it slows. The slower it gets, the smaller the particles of sediment that are released. When it makes land it stops; the current at this point is virtually motionless and the deposited layer is nearly undisturbed. The final load of sediment is deposited and the current moves back out to sea. During the Genesis Flood the waters were gradually rising on the earth for forty consecutive days until they reached the highest point. Great currents, carrying sediment loads from all over the earth, were being driven with great force and velocity in every direction. With this magnitude of speed and violence a good portion of the sediment remained in suspension. As the currents, from all parts of the earth, came into the land region of the Grand Canyon and stopped, they deposited one layer on top of another; each one different from the other. While the difference in stratification may give the appearance of widely separated time intervals if one looks at them from that bias, it is nevertheless exactly what we would expect to see in this area as a result of the Great Flood. Whitcomb-Morris state, in The Genesis Flood, page 153, figure 6: “According to uniformist concepts, numerous changes of environment, with great regional subsidence and uplifts, must have been involved, but this would appear quite impossible. The strata simply could not have remained so nearly uniform and horizontal over such great areas and great periods of time, while undergoing such epeirogenic movements. By far the most reasonable way of accounting for them is in terms of relatively rapid deposition out of the sediment laden waters of the Flood.”

Glaciation and the Flood

Another geological phenomenon which looks to the Genesis Flood for a sane answer is Glaciation. This not only includes the existing glaciers, but the legitimate evidences of those of the past. A very simplified explanation of the bases for the evolutionary and uniformitarian arguments of an ice age or ice ages over very long periods of time are what are called tillites and striations. Tillites are hardened tills. A till is sediment that has supposedly been left by a melting glacier or a layer or sheet of ice. Striations are long scratches, supposedly made by one glacier, containing rocks in its bottom surface, overriding another, separated by great periods of time.

They Became Vain in their Foolish Imaginations

This kind of an argument is almost undisciplined imagination. There are many things that can make scratches on the surface of a glacier, and there is nothing in either tillites or striations to say that they represent different time periods. There is a wild casting about in the worlds of Uniformitarianism and the Geological Ages for an answer to the Glaciation phenomena. The Genesis Flood allows for it very logically and completely.

The Rapid Birth and Death of Glaciers

The thermal blanket (i.e. the great water vapor canopy), surrounding the earth and holding in the heat and making the earth’s temperatures very warm and uniform, fell as great torrents of rain during the first forty days of the Flood. When this happened, all of the heat dissipated and the earth suddenly became very cold. To help this along, great volumes of rain were falling from heaven and the sun was virtually shut out. After the rain, a fierce wind began to blow all over the earth making a chill factor of many degrees below zero. Without the thermal blanket to keep the earth’s temperatures uniform, the Polar Regions suddenly became sub-zero–much colder than they are now–because there was no vapor canopy to radiate heat back to earth, and to keep it from escaping into space. The huge canyons in which the glaciers formed were made by turbidity flows as the torrential rains washed great depths of soil from the surface of the antediluvian earth. Turbidity flows are water currents loaded up with rocks, sands, soils, and debris. These turbidity flows have the ability to do tremendous amounts of geological work in very short periods of time, depending on their size and velocity.

The magnitude of them during the Flood is virtually unfathomable. In addition to this, there were violent earthquakes opening up great fissures in the rocks, and there were mountains being heaved up by tectonic activity, certainly containing cracks, seams, and fissures for rivers to run in and glaciers to form in. Many glaciers were formed in regions that rapidly became too warm to sustain them once the vapor canopy was built back up to a significant extent and the wind stopped. Almost immediately the atmosphere began to heat up again and the glaciers began to melt. A famous example would be the Merced River Canyon in the high country of Yosemite National Park in California. The so called tillites were the result of different currents flowing into these glacier canyons and being frozen, along with the soils and rock being carried as sediment. No doubt there was overriding and scratching as these various sheets of ice kept building on top of one another for forty days. When the glaciers started to melt, the hard tills were left as the sediment that was contained in that current. In places like Yosemite, the glaciers did not last too long because the region is not that cold. There are evidences of movement, polishing and scratching of ice and boulders, and there are many glacial tills. This again is what one would normally expect in a situation where a universal flood built up over forty days, depositing one current that froze into ice on top of another. Obviously there was movement going on in these areas.

The Canyon Came First and Then the Glacier

Clearly the glaciers did not make these canyons. The water flowed into the canyons that were made by turbidity flows, earthquakes, or heaving up of mountains, or else they were already there when the Flood came, though probably not in too many cases. The striations are the interaction between different currents forming different layers of ice, each carrying its own kind of sediment.

The Universal Flood Alone Accounts for Glaciation

Nothing but the rapid dissipation of the earth’s heat into a bitterly cold condition, the increasing waters of the flood, the different currents from different parts of the earth, and the rapid warming again when the great wind stopped and the canopy was to some extent evaporated back up by the great wind, can sensibly explain the glaciers. In that regard it must be stated that many of the areas where scientists had thought in the past that they had seen clear evidence of glacier polishing–principally in what are now regions of African, South American, and tropical regions, thus causing them to conclude a world wide ice age, are now thought to have been caused by great turbidity flows and not glaciers at all.

Coal Deposits and the Flood

The great coal deposits could only sensibly have been formed by the Genesis Flood. These are thick layers of rich vegetation deposited upon one another. This shows that the vegetation was much more luxuriant before the Flood, and that the Flood, along with layers of sediment, flowed this vegetation into the areas where it was trapped and buried. Some places there are many layers of coal, separated by layers of sediment. This is what one would naturally expect to find as a result of the Flood. As the waters rose higher different currents with different loads of vegetation and sediment layered one on top of another.

Diamonds Formed in Twenty-Four Hours by Heat and Hydraulic Pressure

Years ago Uniformitarians declared that it took millions of years for carbons to form, and particularly diamonds. This self-serving pronouncement was used for a long time to frustrate those who would believe in the Flood. But in recent years it has become common knowledge that carbons can form, even diamonds, virtually over night. Commercially produced diamonds for drill bits and similar applications, can be made in 24 hours with heat and hydraulic pressure. So, given the amount of heat and hydraulic pressure that was being built up in the earth’s crust during the Flood, the great coal and diamond beds could have formed in much less than 150 days.

The Greatly Increased Size of the Oceans and the Genesis Flood

Only the Great Flood could have raised the level of the ocean from 2000 to 4000 feet. This is what the geologic testimony shows rather clearly in some instances. Far out from the present shore lines, and down to depths of 4000 feet, there are river canyons where rivers once ran. Many of these subterranean rivers show evidences of having been formed by huge turbidity flows when the first waters of the Great Flood began to reach the ancient sea level.

Continental Shelves

And then there are the continental shelves, which demand an acceptance of the fact of a much lower sea level before the Flood. These mark the original boundary between the continental blocks and the original shore line of the oceans. Some of these shelves are hundreds of miles out to sea at present, with the average distance being around fifty miles.

Seamounts

A quote from Whitcomb-Morris in The Genesis Flood, page 124, under the heading, “More Water in the Present Oceans,” also serves to establish the point: “In past decades have been discovered great numbers of seamounts which are nothing but drowned islands out in the middle of the ocean. These are flat-topped, and therefore non-volcanic in formation, and are now in many cases more than 1000 fathoms below the surface. Yet they give abundant evidence of having once been above the surface (A fathom is six feet).”

The Geological Time Column Hoax

The method that uniformitarian evolutionists and historic geologists use for their dating schemes is illogical, contrived, dishonest, and subjective. It is tied entirely onto its own tail. It is circular reasoning in its most obvious form. It argues that the age of the rocks and the strata can be determined by the fossils, and that the age of the fossils can be determined by the age of the rocks in which they occur. But there are numerous places throughout the world, where the rock strata are out of order by the evolutionist’s criteria. If this where allowed to stand–as of course it does in fact–the evolutionary theory would have to be abandoned as being fatally flawed. But this theory, which has been proven fatally flawed some 7000 times since 1830 when it got started, shows amazing resiliency. Nowhere is this more evident than when they try to rationalize away the obvious geological contradictions that are found in many strata.

The Lewis Overthrust Fiasco

One of the famous examples is the so-called Lewis Overthrust in Glacier Park, Montana. The Lewis Overthrust, a block of rock that is supposed to have been thrust up and out over the shale deposit beneath it, is about 35 miles wide and 6 miles thick. According to uniformitarian evolutionists and their geologists this massive formation has ridden over the shale deposit below it for a distance of about 40 miles. The problem for evolutionists is very simple. This enormous mass of rock is so-called Pre-Cambrian limestone that according to them, is supposed to be about 500,000,000 years older than the rock on which it rests, which is a very thin layer of so-called Cretaceous shale. In an effort to avoid the obvious negating of their arbitrary dating theories, they have come up with this idea. But anyone with dull normal intelligence and no education at all could stand and look at this phenomenon and see the utter ridiculousness of it. How could eight hundred thousand billion tons of rock slide over a thin layer of soft shale for great distances without entirely obliterating the shale layer?

Peer Condemnation

According to Hubert and Rubey, in an article entitled “Role of Fluid Pressure in Mechanics of Overthrust Faulting,” published in the Bulletin of Geological Society of America, Vol. 70, Feb. 1959, pp. 126, “the condition assumed, the pushing of a thrust block, whose length is of the order of 30 km. or more, along a horizontal surface, appears to be a mechanical impossibility.” Dr. Walter Lammerts made a survey of the area in the early l980’s. His conclusion was: “At the actual contact line very thin layers of shale were present. This seems to clearly indicate that just before the Altyn limestone was deposited and after the tilting of the Cretaceous beds, a thin wafer-like 1/8th to 1/16th inch layer of shale was deposited…Likewise careful study of these intercalations showed not the slightest evidence of abrasive activity such as one would expect to find if these were shoved forward in between layers of shale as the Overthrust theory demands.” He goes on to echo Hubert and Ruby by saying that the over thrusting of the limestones “…appears to be a mechanical impossibility.”

Matterhorn and MythenPeak Problems

In other cases, these same evolutionists have the massive Swiss Matterhorn being moved upward and sideways for more than forty miles, in order to explain why it is out of place in the geological time column. But that is only a small thing when compared to the Mythen Peak of the Alps, which has a number of strata which are all out of order. Eocene is on the bottom, then Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous. This is a contradiction of the geological time column’s fanciful dating of these rock formations. In order to try to work their way out of this embarrassing denial of their schemes, historic geologists have arbitrarily moved this mountain, in tact, thousands of miles from Africa into Switzerland! Well, now! Certainly the Genesis Flood did enormous geological work; but the movement of a whole mountain thousands of miles and set it down in perfect conform-ability with, and cemented to, the strata below it with no valid indication of its ever having moved? Hah! Divine intervention could account for such a thing, but certainly nothing that is reportedly held by evolutionists and historic geologists advances a valid answer.

When Liars Fall Out Among Themselves

These and many others, such as the Heart Mountain thrust plain, have caused the highly regarded evolutionist J. A. Jeltzky, in an article entitled “Paleontology: Basis of Practical Geochronology,” published in Volume 40, April 1956, by the Bulletin of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, to admit: “The more amply proved and almost unanimously recognized impossibility of establishing any practically and useful broadly regional or world-wide geologic time scale of Pre-Cambrian time supplies conclusive proof that these phenomena are devoid of any general recognizable geologic time significance.” What did Dr. Jeltzky say? “The geological strata and other evidences do not mean a thing when it comes to determining how they got there and how long they have been there. It is impossible to make anything from the geological record that will establish times and ages that have any practical meaning whatsoever. This has been amply proved and has gained wide recognition.

This simply cannot be ignored any longer.” One of the most respected uniformitarian geologists of his day, Dr. Edmund M. Spieker, Professor of Geology at Ohio State University, confessed the failure of the geological record to support the geological ages theory when he wrote, in an article called “Mountain-Building Chronology and Nature of Geologic Time-Scale,” published by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Volume 40 in l956: “Does our time scale then partake of natural law? No…I wonder how many of us realize that the time scale was frozen in essentially its present form by 1840…? How much world geology was known in 1840? A bit of Western Europe, none too well and a lesser fringe of North America? All of Asia, Africa, South America, and most of North America was virtually unknown. How dared the pioneers to assume that their time scale would fit the rocks in these vast areas, by far most of the world. And in many parts of the world, notably India and South America, it does not fit. But even there it is applied. The followers of the founding fathers went forth across the earth in Procrustean fashion and made it fit the sections they found, even in places where the actual evidences literally proclaimed denial. So flexible and accommodating are the ‘Facts’ of geology.” Of course Dr. Spieker was not trying to do Creationist any favor and he would not agree with our views, but the confessions and admissions that he made are startling:

1. The geological evidences mean nothing in terms of a time scale.

2. This time scale was developed by Lyell and his followers who made it up arbitrarily without broad knowledge or significant evidence.

3. Since then men have blindly followed these ideas, which practice must be religion since it certainly does not follow natural law.

4. What historic geologists have come up with is not science at all but a willful bending of the evidence, even in areas where anyone can see that it does not fit, to make it conform to a preconceived formula that they are determined to protect at all costs.

5. And so the witness of the geological evidence, that many have thought clearly speaks to them of evolution, really says nothing to them at all because they are blinded by the brainwashing and indoctrinating they have had into their religious beliefs and have been fully committed, even against plain evidence to the contrary, that their beliefs are right. “How dare they do this in the name of science?” the good doctor chides. “My, my,” he mocks, “how easy it is to bend our theories and how easily they accommodate to every new and imaginary hunch. Such,” he says, in scathing tones, literally dripping with sarcasm, “are the ‘facts’ of geology.”

In conclusion to this article we quote again from Whitcomb-Morris, on whom we have relied often, though not exclusively, for much of technical information: “In the light of such frequent flagrant contradictions to the established geologic time sequences, in addition to the arbitrary methods and circular reasoning by which the scale itself has been established, and also in addition to the innumerable evidences of catastrophe, rather than uniformity, as the basic principle in the deposition and modification of the geologic strata, the writers feel warranted in contending that the data of geology do not provide valid evidence against the historicity of the universal Deluge as recorded in the book of Genesis.

It is thus legitimate to attempt a new interpretation of these data which will be in harmony with the Biblical account of the Creation and the Flood.” While it is not my intent to offer any apology or any new theories, I quote these things to show that, for scientists in the field, creationists and otherwise, the evidence of the geological phenomena in the earth today, not only does not deny, but supports the Genesis account of the Flood. And in any case it does not support and it does deny the historic geological-ages theory and uniformitarian evolution. For the honest seeker these are matters of the witness of nature to the truths revealed to us by the Holy Scriptures.

Quantum Physics and Affirmations https://gamsfarm.xyz/quantum-physics-and-affirmations/ https://gamsfarm.xyz/quantum-physics-and-affirmations/#respond Fri, 28 Jul 2023 09:41:12 +0000 https://gamsfarm.xyz/index.php/2023/07/28/quantum-physics-and-affirmations/ Quantum physics is changing the game of reality and showing us that the mind plays a big role in what is considered to be real. Quantum theory puts forth the assertion that reality only becomes real when it is observed by an observer. The Universe consists of an infinite number of superpositions, probabilities of finding a particle at a particular place at a particular time. The waves of probabilities for each particle only collapse into a defined reality once observed. Hence, the world is buzzing with potential that becomes real only once we make an observation.

If quantum physics describes the state of every particle on earth, than quantum physics describes our mind also. Think of each though you have as making an observation of a superposition. Each thought is a choice of observation. At each moment we pick which thoughts to have and, in terms of quantum physics, make that thought real. Similarly, when we think about our environment, career, relationships, health, etc… we are making choices about what to observe, and by merely observing, the observation becomes a reality.

For example, assume you are looking outside and you choose to think about the abundance of beauty, the reality is that your view is beautiful. However, if your choice was to notice all of the leaves you will have to rake in the fall, the environment becomes very different indeed.

Quantum physics states that we have a choice in what is real. Affirmations can help to make positive choices about reality. When you consciously choose what you affirm, you are making an observation. You are increasing the probability of the superposition you are affirming. By simply opening your mind to abundance, health, love and joy you are more likely to see that reality in your observations.

Affirmations become especially powerful when you look at the Quantum Zeno Effect, a principle in Quantum Physics. The Quantum Zeno Effect states that rapid frequent observation can hold a state stable for longer than it normally would. In fact, if observed long enough the state can become permanent. Our minds, our thoughts, are in constant natural flux. When we choose to hold our attention on a specific thought, we generate the power to keep the thought present, permanent in our minds. We have the power to create new default neural connections in our brains. If we can hold a thought long enough and with conscious attention, according to the Quantum Zeno Effect, we can permanently alter our state of mind. The repetition of affirmations can play a role in creating a permanent positive state. Imagine a life with positive thoughts, a positive attitude and a positive reality.

Affirmations take focus and effort. Saying something three times and expecting a new life will not create results. However, there is real, true, powerful, proven scientific power in using persistent positive thinking to change reality. Quantum physics shows us that there are a number of possible outcomes; you are the one with the power to choose.

The Reality And Non-Reality Of Mathematics https://gamsfarm.xyz/the-reality-and-non-reality-of-mathematics/ https://gamsfarm.xyz/the-reality-and-non-reality-of-mathematics/#respond Fri, 28 Jul 2023 09:41:08 +0000 https://gamsfarm.xyz/index.php/2023/07/28/the-reality-and-non-reality-of-mathematics/ There’s little doubt that mathematics rules the reality roost when it comes to the laws, principles and relationships within the sciences in general and the physical sciences in particular. Further, mathematics plays a dominant role when it comes to the purely economic aspects of our lives and where would sports be without statistics? However, when it comes down to brass tacks, how much of really real reality is actually reflected in our mathematics?

The Reality of Mathematics.

Mathematics is just a shorthand mental concept that simulates reality, or approximates reality or a possible reality or even an imaginary / impossible ‘reality’. Mathematics is NOT reality itself. You can mathematically manipulate the alleged extra dimensions in String Theory but that doesn’t mean of necessity that these extra dimensions actually exist.

Mathematics is a tool that at first approximation tries to reflect upon the nature of really real reality. Mathematics is not reality itself. Further, our mathematics are structured to reflect our version of reality based on our observations not of necessity what really happens. The perfect example is Quantum Mechanics. For example, we may not know, even cannot know even in principle, exactly where a particle is as well as at the same time where it is going with 100% precision. So we invent a form of probability mathematics like the Schrodinger Equation or the equation that governs the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle. Those equations are for our edification but they don’t alter the really real reality fact that the particle has actual coordinates and is going from A to B. Probability in Quantum Mechanics, and the mathematical equations associated with it, are just reflections on the limits of the human observer and human instrumentation, not a reflection on Mother Nature’s really real reality. Our Quantum Mechanical equations are imposed approximations to really real reality much like Newton’s equation for gravitational attraction was really only in hindsight an approximation.

There can be multiple models of reality, each based on mathematics, but they can’t all be right. Cosmology is a case in point.

The phrase “but the mathematics works” means absolutely nothing. Just because mathematics predicts the possibility of some kind of structure and substance, or some law, relationship or principle that the Cosmos might have, does not of necessity make it so. A prime example where the mathematics worked but the Cosmos didn’t go along for the ride was the ad-hoc piling on those epicycles upon epicycles in order to explain the motion of the planets. It finally got so unwieldy that the baby was thrown out with the bathwater and a new baby conceived, that being that the Earth was just another planet and not at the center of life, the Universe and everything. Once it was postulated that the Earth went around the Sun, planetary motion fell into place – mathematically into place as well.

Take a more modern example. The mathematics works in String Theory, but to date String Theory remains a theorists’ theoretical dream (accent or emphasis on the word “dream”).

Probability theory is that branch of mathematics that interposes itself between the macro human and human comprehension and abilities and the micro world of quantum mechanics. That has way more to do with the macro than with the micro since the absolutes of the micro aren’t visible in the realm of the macro; they are beyond the realm of the macro to resolve through no fault by the way of human comprehension or abilities.

A prime example is that there is no probability in quantum mechanics, only probability introduced by the limitations of the conscious mind to get down and dirty to the level of detail required to eliminate the concept of probability from quantum mechanics.

Mathematics serves no purpose, useful or otherwise, outside of the context of the human mind (specifically) or outside of the intellectual conscious minds of other sentient species (in general), thus making allowances for E.T. and maybe the terrestrial great apes; whales and dolphins; and perhaps other advanced minds – perhaps elephants as well as some birds.

In the absence of any conscious minds, what use has the Universe for arithmetic, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, topology, statistics and the multi other branches of mathematics? Now 1 + 1 = 2 might be universally the case and logically true even in the absence of any conscious mind, or before any life form ever came to pass, but so what? That cuts no mustard with the Universe! There was nobody around to conceive of that or to make use of that or to equate the manipulation of numbers as a reflection of universal reality (or even non-reality*). There was no conscious or intellectual mind around to appreciate any mathematical utility or usefulness or beauty or elegance.

Mathematics in fact is not a reflection on or of reality, only that reality as observed or defined once having been filtered through sensory apparatus thus pondered over by the conscious mind. Reality as perceived in the mind is several transitional layers of processing removed from whatever pure external reality there happens to be. There’s even an additional layer if instrumentation is a middleman. So the conscious mind is thus limited in terms of its ability to come to terms with the full scope of really real reality.

Mathematics is the interface between humans and human comprehension, understanding, etc. of the Cosmos at large. Mathematics can tell you in actuality or theoretically the ‘what’ but never the ‘how’ or the ‘why’. For example, there’s Newton’s Law of Gravity, but even he realized that that equation just told you ‘what’, not ‘how’ or ‘why’.

The Non-Reality of Mathematics.

The following examples are some of what I term the non-realities of mathematics.

* Hyper-cubes are a nice abstract concept that mathematics / geometry can incorporate. However, while you might be able to play with real cubes, like dice, hyper-cubes will be forever beyond you.

* Stephen Hawking’s concept of negative time. Since IMHO time is just change and change is just motion, then negative time would have to be negative change and negative motion. That doesn’t make any sense at all. So while Hawking’s negative time might be useful in a mathematical sense, it has no bearing on our reality and can safely be ignored.

* Lots of quantum mechanical equations yielded up infinities so a sleight-of-hand concept called re-normalization was invented to deal with those cases involving infinities. That strikes me as dealing cards from under the table or otherwise known as a inserting a “fudge factor”. Does re-normalization represent really real reality?

* The mathematics of singularities inherent at the moment of the Big Bang or in Black Holes goes down the rabbit hole in that the laws, principles and relationships inherent in the physical sciences that are so otherwise adequately described mathematically now break down when trying to describe singularities and thus so does the accompanying mathematics that are involved as well. So what actually is the really real reality behind singularities?

* Mathematics are perfectly capable of dealing with alleged extra dimensions inherent in String Theory. However, that doesn’t make String Theory a reality, not does it make a half-dozen extra and hidden dimensions a reality.

* Mathematics is perfectly capable of dealing with an inverse cube law that has no correspondence with our physics. Just because a mathematical equation works doesn’t mean that there is a one-on-one correspondence to the real physical world.

* Mathematics are perfectly capable of dealing with zero, one and two dimensions yet these are just mental concepts that can’t actually be constructed and thus have no really real reality.

* Space-Time: Since space is just an immaterial mental concept (that imaginary container that actual physical stuff has to reside in) and since time is also just an immaterial mental concept (our way of coming to terms with change which is just motion – which is also an immaterial mental concept since motion itself isn’t composed of anything physical), then space-time has to be an immaterial mental concept. Neither space nor time nor space-time is actually composed of any material substance and the trilogy has no material 3-D structure. However, the mathematics involving the concept of space-time are a useful tool in describing reality, but not actually really real reality itself.

Investing in Science – Why Life Science Real Estate Is Exploding https://gamsfarm.xyz/investing-in-science-why-life-science-real-estate-is-exploding/ https://gamsfarm.xyz/investing-in-science-why-life-science-real-estate-is-exploding/#respond Fri, 28 Jul 2023 09:41:01 +0000 https://gamsfarm.xyz/index.php/2023/07/28/investing-in-science-why-life-science-real-estate-is-exploding/ The previous decade saw explosive growth in the life sciences sector of commercial real estate. These are companies that are involved in medical research and new technologies development.

Some prominent examples that may come to mind are biotech firms or pharmaceutical firms.

Considerable amounts of capital have been and continue to be invested in this space, driving a surge of medical research expansion focusing on new technologies and medication involving DNA and mRNA, stem cell research, and more.

Exciting new technologies have emerged which have reignited excitement in the scientific community, such as artificial intelligence and new breakthroughs in cell and gene therapies.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought increased attention from the general public to a sector of the economy that was undergoing a rapid expansion.

As soon as we invest in life sciences real estate, we should also remember that developing or investing in multifamily real estate in proximity to life science facilities can be highly profitable.

For instance, an area with a pharmaceutical firm’s headquarters will be able to charge higher rents than surrounding areas due to bringing higher quality tenants both directly and through tangential businesses. This is good for all businesses in the surrounding area- from grocery stores, gyms, malls, and healthcare services.

We are residential pros who target multifamily, but a number of our Class A developments are square in the”line of progress,” surrounded by life sciences infrastructure and employers.

About

Real estate aimed towards life science companies include a lab space for conducting physical experiments as well as a workplace component.

As technology has advanced, the share of your typical life science center devoted to workplace has improved.

Scientists and researchers now spend increasingly large amounts of time with highly advanced computer modeling applications for many pieces of their study that previously was unavailable.

As a consequence of these tendencies, these facilities today tend to have slightly more office space compared to laboratory space.

The talk of lab space may be shrinking as computers play a larger role in study, but it does not mean it is an afterthought into the businesses. On the contrary, the laboratory spaces in demand now are more sophisticated and cutting edge than as highly specialized areas of study are being pursued.

Like all flex real estate, life science facilities need flexibility and adaptability. As distinct research fields are pursued over time, lab space might have to be repurposed, expanded, or relocated to different regions of the facility.

Buildings that allow for this type of adaptability have been in high demand by life science companies that want to stay for years and may go through several distinct phases of research. There is no point in developing space that can’t be adapted as the company grows.

Demand has continued to outstrip supply within this sector and it’s showed no signs of slowing down any time soon. Listed below are a few reasons why you should consider adding a investment into life sciences real estate in your portfolio:

1. Funding

As the old saying goes,”follow the money.”

They provide grants to scientific research and have awarded over $100 billion these grants in the past five decades. Additionally, Cushman & Wakefield released a report a year ago that showed very good growth over the last decade, together with venture capital investments in the sector growing from $3.7 billion to $17.4 billion.

The report also found that, between 2012 to 2019, paying research and development from life science companies increased by 40%. A similar report from CBRE concurred, finding that venture capital funds flowing into the life science field are up 40 percent from where they were a decade ago.

2. Growth:

Our development firm got started in Boston, Massachusetts, which is currently rated as the number one marketplace for life sciences by several sources.

We saw up front the enormous growth of the local economy driven by the life sciences sector, which spilled out to a demand for newer, higher excellent housing, lodging, and other new industrial investments (visit our Demand Cleaners for Real Estate Explained post for more information).

This rapid expansion saw an already robust backbone of 9.6 million square feet of life sciences commercial real estate expand into 18 million square feet now, according to CoStar.

These trends are being observed throughout the nation as venture capital funds and grants embolden those businesses to seek increasingly more usable space for their research needs.

There’s also some level of delayed-onset growth occurring due to the timely nature involved in exploring and creating new technologies and treatments. Funding which has been brought in over the course of the past decade led originally to R&D that’s just now beginning to bear fruit. The push for a vaccine following the outbreak of this COVID pandemic reveal indicators of the kind of muscle these businesses have started to flex following years of continuous progress.

Another lesson that the COVID pandemic has educated the business is the demand for bringing the supply chain back home.

Overreliance on foreign links in the supply chain caused problems and created uncertainty throughout the pandemic and companies want to prevent this by onshoring, even though this incurs added costs.

This tendency will present an opportunity for the new evolution of warehouse and storage facilities for all these supply chains.

3. Vacancy Rate:

When compared with traditional office commercial real estate, lifestyle science has roughly half the vacancy rate, at 9 percent, when considering a national average. Strong markets like Boston and San Francisco saw exceptionally low rates of 4 percent and 2%, respectively, annually. It will take many years before the supply of new life science facilities can begin to keep pace with the current demand.

4. Jobs:

In a report released by Cushman & Wakefield, it was discovered that life science job growth has risen by 7.5% annually because 2013. This is an incredible increase when compared to previous twenty year period, when job growth in this sector was 1% annually. Still another indication the life sciences real estate is in a fantastic position, as employment development indicators are usually a number of the strongest clues of stable expansion.

5. New Markets:

Even though Boston, Seattle, San Diego, and San Francisco would be the superstars in the life science globe today, the business is growing rapidly and this has started to and will continue to drive growth into new markets. The major life science markets of today all have a higher cost of living which make it harder for employee and employer alike.

This really is driving a push into new markets, including Philadelphia, Maryland, and North Carolina, to mention a few. Areas with a strong backbone of research-based university(ies) and an educated population will be in a solid position to welcome new life science firms in their market.
